Rieck has a new structure in China

Published 19.04.2016

Berlin, 19 April 2016. On 1 March 2016, Rieck set up its own company in China: Rieck Sea Air Cargo International (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.

Rieck was previously the majority shareholder of a joint venture in China. "We ended the cooperation so we could have more scope for action in the Chinese market in the future", explains Oliver-Karsten Thormählen, managing director of Rieck Sea Air Cargo International (RSACI). "With our own fully owned company, we can focus the entire national organisation around the strategic goals of the Rieck Group, with short decision-making processes and improved efficiency. We want to use this structure to grow our product range, further optimise quality and, in particular, expand intermodal transport in China."

More services, more security

Improved standardised processes, an efficient and uniform IT solution, a diverse customer structure and improved transport within Asia – these are the goals of the young company. "Our aim is to build up Rieck in China just like in Germany. The Sea Air Cargo division will therefore integrate contract logistics with land transportation in China and offer these services to customers in combination", explains Oliver-Karsten Thormählen. "We want to strengthen synergies, particularly in the area of contract logistics. This improves fulfilment for e-commerce customers, for example."

Also in relation to IT, Rieck customers will have the same experience in both Europe and Asia in the future. "Our new IT solution for sea and air freight from Germany including order management and track & trace tool will be implemented quickly in China to ensure transparent and clear processes on a global scale", says Oliver-Karsten Thormählen. A uniform IT system also means fewer interfaces and thus increased security.

More industries, more imports

Another goal is to diversify customer structure. "The automotive industry remains our focus", says Oliver-Karsten Thormählen. "Our expertise does not end here, however. We also have numerous long-established and successful relationships with well-known manufacturers of home and consumer electronics, toy producers and companies from the medical, chemical, pharmaceutical and engineering industries. In general, we offer tailored logistics services for virtually every industry." In addition to traditional export services such as procurement and consolidation, services also include import processing, deconsolidation, interim storage and distribution.

Reliable employees and partners

With over 25 years of experience operating in China, including more than 10 years as a majority shareholder in German-Chinese joint venture, Rieck has an excellent network of reliable partners. Rieck relies on its skilled and experienced employees. In addition to this, RSACI Shanghai benefits from the global Rieck partner network. The medium-sized companies consolidated here, all represent the same values. "This network gives us a global presence in China from the
outset", says Oliver-Karsten Thormählen. "Our established partner companies and our skilled employees are the key to our success. They represent proven Rieck standards and structures."
